Story about this house

Amazing Story

A wonderful three-bedroom cottage in the village of Shrivenham, Swindon, has just gone on the market and it’s bursting with fairy tale charm.

Just like something out of the children’s story, Hansel and Gretel, the extraordinary Wiltshire home, evocatively named ‘Woodmans Retreat’, was built in 1850 as a summer house by Lord Barrington of Beckett Park.

Designed in the same style as Lord Barrington’s honeymoon accommodation in Switzerland, the Grade II listed detached cottage is truly magical with its timber and brick walls, diamond glazing, galleried landing and thatched roofing in a gable design.
