Amazing House was saved

Amazing before and after of the JOSEPH CONE HOUSE in North Vernon, Indiana.

This George F. Barber designed house was built in 1894 for businessman and banker Joseph Cone.

After many years of disuse and with aging owners unable to maintain it, the house declined into near-ruin and was dangerous to the inhabitants.

In 2017 Jennings County Area Plan Commission secured a court-ordered eviction and signed a demolition order.

Indiana Landmarks came up with an 11th-hour save.

A temporary injunction granted by a Jennings County Circuit Court Judge stayed demolition on the condition that substantial repairs were completed by mid-December 2018.

Also, housing was secured for the elderly owners.
