A $22.5 million renovation of the American Brewery in Baltimore, Maryland

A $22.5 million renovation of the American Brewery in Baltimore, Maryland.

The five-story structure was built in 1887 as part of a five-acre brewery complex.

The American Brewery, once a landmark in East Baltimore, was forced to close in 1920 due to prohibition.

The building deteriorated over the next few decades and was even used as a backdrop on HBO’s “The Wire.”

Humanim Inc., a nonprofit social services provider, moved in after $22.5 million in renovations in 2009.

The Baltimore Sun says that the building’s central location and good architecture will help the community and economy in the area grow in the future.
